Pros of buying a Rawlings HPG-12 American 12.5" Rh Baseball Glove (Stiff):1. High-quality materials: The glove is made from premium steerhide leather, which is known for its durability and ability to break in over time. This ensures that the glove will last for many seasons.
2. Pro-Hollow web: The glove features a pro-hollow web, which provides excellent pocket depth and helps to keep the glove lightweight. This is beneficial for players who need quick hand movements and have a fast throwing style.
3. Adjustable wrist strap: The adjustable wrist strap allows for a custom fit, ensuring that the glove stays secure on the hand during play. This is particularly important for youth players who are still growing.
4. Designed for infield play: The 12.5" size and stiffness of the glove make it ideal for infielders, who require a smaller, more maneuverable glove for quick fielding and throwing.
Cons of buying a Rawlings HPG-12 American 12.5" Rh Baseball Glove (Stiff):1. Break-in period: Due to its stiffness, the glove may require a significant break-in period to become comfortable for use. This can be time-consuming and may require the use of gloves oil or conditioner.
2. May be too small for outfielders: The 12.5" size may be too small for outfielders, who typically require a larger glove for catching fly balls and making throws to bases.
3. Price: The glove is on the higher end of the price range for baseball gloves, which may make it an expensive investment for some players or parents.
Conclusion:The Rawlings HPG-12 American 12.5" Rh Baseball Glove (Stiff) is a high-quality, durable glove that is ideal for infielders who need a lightweight, maneuverable glove for quick fielding and throwing. However, its stiffness may require a significant break-in period, and its price may be prohibitive for some buyers. Ultimately, the decision to purchase this glove will depend on the individual player's needs and budget.
Recommendation:If you are an infield player who requires a lightweight, maneuverable glove for quick fielding and throwing, and you are willing to invest in a high-quality glove, then the Rawlings HPG-12 American 12.5" Rh Baseball Glove (Stiff) is a great option. However, if you are a beginner or have a limited budget, you may want to consider a more affordable, less stiff glove that requires less break-in time.
This is a quality well-made glove that would have sold for $100-$110 when in 1987. It has a double web and is for right-handed thrower, so the glove fits on left hand. It also has a nice original Rawlings cloth patch or label. The glove is tan with brown lacing and leather piping.
Leather is a bit faded on the thumb side compared to rest of glove. Nice quality 1980glove that still has lots of use left. Stamped on the front of glove is Deep Well Pocket, The American Series, Made in USA, HPG-12, Finest In Field. Wool padding underneath the backstrap is all there.
But it wan't used much and the thumb, fingers catching palm are still stiff, so glove needs more use appears. And Rawlings. The very faint initials HW are written in ink on the interior of heel where hand goes. Glove has been broken in and lays flat.
Here is nice 1987 Rawlings The American Series model HPC-12 baseball or softball glove that 125 long per my measurement. The leather piping is nice. The quality glove lays flat but still has stiff fingers, thumb and catching area. So it was started to be broken in and then hardly used.
Leather lacing appears original and intact.
